Uganda be kidding. We think you will like this better than Uganja. And if you are not already a "pothead" (coffee pothead, that is...wink, wink), we believe you will be after experiencing this unique but awesome coffee.
Mount Elgon is a massive peak on the border of Eastern Uganda and Kenya. It is home to one of three regions of specialty-grade arabica coffee in Uganda. It produces some of the world's most prestigious organic coffees due to the increasing quality control practices at the wet mill where this coffee is processed.
Sipi Falls, named after the mountain’s most famous waterfall just down the road, is a centralized wet mill in the Kapchorwa district that buys and processes cherry from 8,000 organic and diversified farms across the northern part of the mountain.
Why did we choose to offer this coffee?
We have been working in Uganda in some of the most impoverished rural farming communities to transform and help create an economic boon. We love Uganda for the coffee and the communities where we walk alongside some of the most joyful and hopeful individuals we know.
Uganda is the heart and soul of why Boon Coffee Roasters - Coffee with a Purpose exists. We love working with this particular washing station because:
- Programs that are offered in this farming community include women's empowerment
- An intense focus on quality increases farmers' overall price when they sell their coffee to this mill. This higher price improves their household income.
- Washed and graded again in clean water channels
- They are focused on the environment with a "recycled" water program
- Research and development as this washing station has experimental-process micro-lots they produce each year from their best farmers
- Lastly, carefully handpicked the best greens before exported
