Gelana and Abaya are neighboring woredas (districts), Gelana to the south and Abaya to the north, stretching along the eastern slopes of the range of hills separating Yirgacheffe from Lake Abaya. Gelana and Abaya are located in the Borena Zone of Ethiopia’s massive Oromia Region.
This Grade 1, wet-processed coffee is from the Dumerso Washing Station in the Gelana Abaya area, located in central southern Ethiopia's Gediyo Zone and borders the Kochere Woreda (woredas are third-level administrative divisions, collected into zones) and Guji Zone. About 800 small farmers contribute to this washing station.
Why did we choose to offer this coffee?
- Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, starting in around 850 A.D. So we must pay homage to the mothership!
- CHEMICAL FREE: Due to the ideal climate and environment it is grown in, Yirgacheffe coffee plants do not need to be managed with agricultural chemicals.
- Ethiopia was the first to implement the process for "washed" coffees.
- The flavors of these are bright, beautiful, and ideal for both hot and cold brews (hint, hint for future product additions)
- QUALITY: The focus on quality continues here in Ethiopia, bringing more household income to farmers and their communities.
